All the schools closed for the day. Molly enjoyed snuffling and biting the snow. She gets just as excited as a little kid and wants to go out and play. The storm moved out of Canada, across Washington and hit us yesterday and last night, then it was off to California where San Francisco is expecting a dusting of snow. Mid morning the sun came out and by noon most of the snow had melted. More is expected this afternoon, but I suspect by tomorrow it will be a non-event. I covered tulips and budding hydrangea hoping to save them.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc6HkfZFN4A-Ecsq3gmxz0wjJRyYJ-wb3MqV10wnM3y28I8CB8LV_KTP8WIafPyZgmGitlHxRbDeDtx2agoDYc9iCYGDnWen78BZtWKgmgfCQLAUcQd9bIy3z6pOJQ3Ge0qBGu4wW0zRc/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc6HkfZFN4A-Ecsq3gmxz0wjJRyYJ-wb3MqV10wnM3y28I8CB8LV_KTP8WIafPyZgmGitlHxRbDeDtx2agoDYc9iCYGDnWen78BZtWKgmgfCQLAUcQd9bIy3z6pOJQ3Ge0qBGu4wW0zRc/s320/006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

I found the post interesting, so many of us late baby boomers are turning 50 or will do so soon. For me it is 16 months from now, but very much on my mind. I will turn 50 and weeks later my youngest child graduates high school, so I will also become an empty nester. Now what? What do I do now, cause the same old looks very boring. I love my children, have enjoyed raising them, but it is me time again. I look forward to the spontaneity this time will bring. Initially I know I will stay busier then usual to fill the void, but soon I will ease into the next phase of life. Eating when I want to, going out to see friends anytime I want to, no kids to haul somewhere or asking me for money, opps, I am afraid they still ask for money, college is expensive. Going to the beach for the day, and suddenly deciding to stay the night, because we can!<br />
<br />
So with all this on my mind, I recently took a walk by my home to a old cemetery. It was a dark Grey day, the rain had stopped. The only noise was from cars passing by and my shoes in the wet grass. I walked the tomb stones, I took pictures, and saw some interesting things. This cemetery had many tombstones of WWII Veterans. What surprised me the most as I looked for more and more to confirm this. The Vets buried there, most lived long lives, but strangely, most out lived their wives, some by months, others by years. I thought "Us" gals typically outlived our guys, what happened? <br />
<br />
I also found plots that were completely overgrown. So what follows are photos I first took using different settings on my camera, then manipulated them. I hope you enjoy the results.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd4fUZBf6hyphenhyphenuVlZwd_cM8_Lw_f-oV-l38W951ZCWipji8Yv3zXwXKhCLvR26-hBF1xqk7iEhwm7urFS7NtbldgQhOgDwzNBEj8xXh_c3gR2UwAeADpYdiXgdsR7Ik5lKZ1B4BO8broaLg/s1600/haunting+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd4fUZBf6hyphenhyphenuVlZwd_cM8_Lw_f-oV-l38W951ZCWipji8Yv3zXwXKhCLvR26-hBF1xqk7iEhwm7urFS7NtbldgQhOgDwzNBEj8xXh_c3gR2UwAeADpYdiXgdsR7Ik5lKZ1B4BO8broaLg/s320/haunting+2.jpg" width="282" /></a></div><br />

Then I think I will spend sometime thinking about my contributions and how I would like to be remembered. <br />
On a lighter note here's to looking at and enjoying another 50 years, hopefully. Remember to enjoy sunsets, and sunrises. Stop when the delicate smell of new roses in spring hits your nose and inhale deeply. Laugh until your sides hurt when your bird dog, leaps chasing a seagull into the ocean, only to realize she can not out swim it as it flies away. Look at the world through childlike eyes, there is glory all around you.Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-26948122048247227252011-02-01T17:37:00.000-08:002012-02-13T21:42:36.384-08:00The Process of CreatingI recently posted on my Artfire blog about creative inspiration and it got me to thinking.....<br />
<br />
Once you find a source of creative inspiration, how does it translate for you? What is the required process needed to interpet the inspiration? How many paths are you led down before you decide on a medium to express what you see in your minds eye? Which one do you choose first or is there only one choice? The space you create in what does that look like and how does it serve you, or hold you back?<br />
<br />
<br />
When I was in high school, we had a career class that we could take. I spent some time in the career center, when I decided I wanted to do something in Art. I found this article about a designer who took pictures out of magazines and photos and kept them all in files for inspiration. This process always stuck with me. <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I find magazine ads to be inspiring. So some of the pages in one of my sketch books looks like this,</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW2d92GaMWmq3YUH_3LATsVFyyyVyHGnNxooS1AcdVImRiUCQbQY79pi3yx7ocjvrU0NyCdvrqOfB5znc1XKaNYfhFCfSpr49j-xl9FkZPIiXWt6LauIGlppwG3o6_PzoIIzhaFYhMC1s/s1600/CP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; height: 191px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; width: 428px;"><img border="0" height="191" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW2d92GaMWmq3YUH_3LATsVFyyyVyHGnNxooS1AcdVImRiUCQbQY79pi3yx7ocjvrU0NyCdvrqOfB5znc1XKaNYfhFCfSpr49j-xl9FkZPIiXWt6LauIGlppwG3o6_PzoIIzhaFYhMC1s/s400/CP.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">And This,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilnT4QKRsJatJoSgA0emcOiuSOiROO2NxBoA4Tr1Osui3MIS8s6sAVZ94yNPDeQ0Zd5Xd26Ndw0lWjHy-VAFi2er2WzKth1wfQnQd46GYLEQW-4rMn0zeX_7zyuI6sGU7z3nuEdJJWUuk/s1600/cp3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilnT4QKRsJatJoSgA0emcOiuSOiROO2NxBoA4Tr1Osui3MIS8s6sAVZ94yNPDeQ0Zd5Xd26Ndw0lWjHy-VAFi2er2WzKth1wfQnQd46GYLEQW-4rMn0zeX_7zyuI6sGU7z3nuEdJJWUuk/s320/cp3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Honestly I think these leggings are relevant again, some 15 years later. I mean even the shoes, hello, cute.<br />
So do you keep files in cabinets or do you paste them in sketch books? This is what I do;<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3EQVvtq-2eyq5wAMGczdVm6rBYQsXnCnwEx__ttarSEvkR50d2LZeCQhKqJMrnKJzDF6KcY3rfXHdhLToFx2Lsc_TVns1Ijh8JX8n5HW1_rl4QdS55S-g2uTmwPjdTVDy_QehTJOL88/s1600/CP1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3EQVvtq-2eyq5wAMGczdVm6rBYQsXnCnwEx__ttarSEvkR50d2LZeCQhKqJMrnKJzDF6KcY3rfXHdhLToFx2Lsc_TVns1Ijh8JX8n5HW1_rl4QdS55S-g2uTmwPjdTVDy_QehTJOL88/s320/CP1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Some times, I have been puzzling an idea and it comes to me at night watching TV and so, the idea will float around on a piece of paper like this one.......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3zGDS3NACxbEVT_kvoQ6gr7NXQRBremHo_fGJGQgp4NcAHhSykV614TUDl8gPkxxwwboCWag5FiYL3JLWlCgjqS5qef-zFSWYwnciEq3fpEJb8AOBnJzyc1SXY5ZoXtnXFQrFXTAzNdg/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3zGDS3NACxbEVT_kvoQ6gr7NXQRBremHo_fGJGQgp4NcAHhSykV614TUDl8gPkxxwwboCWag5FiYL3JLWlCgjqS5qef-zFSWYwnciEq3fpEJb8AOBnJzyc1SXY5ZoXtnXFQrFXTAzNdg/s320/016.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>The idea needs a little fine tuning, but in the mean time I made the first proto type. By June 2012 I will be an empty nester, as much as I thought I would look forward to the freedom, I don't think I will like it very much. Have I ever said I have the best sons in the world and I am so very proud of them!!<br />

He came to me at the beginning of December and said his hands were cold. I jumped at the opportunity to knit for him. Trying to be all casual I asked him if he would like some gloves. He did but he wanted his fingers free. I quickly pulled up <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/account/login">Ravelry</a> and with the lightning speed of a regular user, I had fingerless gloves for men pulled up. As we scrolled down, he quickly picked <a href="http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/PATTcigar.html">cigar</a> with mods, but he just had to have the same yarn, knitpicks Wool of the Andes. Two weeks later I had the yarn, with two weeks to go, I started to knit, hoping my hand would be ok. His mods included only 2" of ribbing on the wrist. We picked the large size based on his hand width. he wanted all the fingers to end at the first knuckle. As I started to knit the hand and have him try it on, we did other mods. On the second set of increases I used the medium size, on the thumb I allowed all the stitches for the large size. We skipped the strips, of course he wanted all black, he is 16. I knit the rounds for the small, all fingers I allowed the medium size. I liked the way they came out, he is very happy and I finished the knitting on Christmas eve! </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobYJMMRl3ZGdkj2_nzCXZoyuLYaQ2BLG7yFIG_nuc5CucW31RblBG8ERk-xw8RpfO0fGDZPrXCxKtlmBsAnPJf6eN5q4dosQiKux_o6-ttc9DXZGhUWB4Ysdp5B7Kg6rrplbrpHLTZw0/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobYJMMRl3ZGdkj2_nzCXZoyuLYaQ2BLG7yFIG_nuc5CucW31RblBG8ERk-xw8RpfO0fGDZPrXCxKtlmBsAnPJf6eN5q4dosQiKux_o6-ttc9DXZGhUWB4Ysdp5B7Kg6rrplbrpHLTZw0/s320/013.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">My only complaint was with the yarn. Interestingly most of what I found was about mills in the US that have closed. I found that they used Sulfuric Acid to remove debris and neutralized this with baking soda before dumping it in ponds. I also found they soaked yarn in a chemical with the dyes. The land of these mills was toxic and have required clean up. This concerns me as a knitter, as someone who is chemical sensitive and for our environment. Especially so when so many yarns are made overseas and we don't know what they are using or how they are dealing with the waste. <br />
<br />
Last but not least, I finally took the time to develop my <a href="http://www.wbkdesigns.artfire.com/">Artfire Studio</a> you can go there and read my blog about my New Years Resolutions. What have you resolved to do this year?<br />

Ok this is really last, I also treated myself to a gazing with <a href="http://www.bracoamerica.com/Braco_America/Welcome.html">Braco</a> I owe my Step mom lots of gratitude, she told me about him and we went together. I am sure this is not for everyone. All I can say, it was the best gift I have given myself in a long time, words can not adequately describe the experience.Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-79502956399146214112010-12-08T12:59:00.000-08:002010-12-08T12:59:04.692-08:00Catching upIn August, my mother came to visit. We had a wonderful time. We went to the coast and visited <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.latimerquiltandtextile.com/%22%3E%3C/a%3E">the Latimer Quilt and Textile Museum</a>. It was a lovely day and we had lunch on the water. Mom was in search of the Boutique knits book, because she wanted to make <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/side-slip-cloche%22%3E%3C/a%3E.">the Side Slip Cloche</a> Our travels took us to Knit Purl in downtown Portland where she purchased yarn for both of us to make the hat. More about this later...<br />

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">September brought rain, fall leaves and my son back in school, while I started the job of packing up our house to move. I needed a break from my MSP so I did something for fun. I made these batts from a dyed roving of merino, bamboo and nylon. I threw in some brown Shetland roving and a chunky bits of soy silk top. Into the drum carder it went for one pass.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyrX0dV-Rj3ei_cNVTU7pXC1VB3QPb40hh5YXgruheuZBruJIr0MXPrxIKj6UeerRV99rPlqDJLybY2mNSTVdGQyBiVGDI64zdruoaWQUfBM_BE5q_qnVGcGiuS5QjlALMtoMSdPcxwTg/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyrX0dV-Rj3ei_cNVTU7pXC1VB3QPb40hh5YXgruheuZBruJIr0MXPrxIKj6UeerRV99rPlqDJLybY2mNSTVdGQyBiVGDI64zdruoaWQUfBM_BE5q_qnVGcGiuS5QjlALMtoMSdPcxwTg/s320/012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I made 4 one ounce batts and spun them into a thick and thin single.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3na75-blyT_V4sMasTaNx1gv3S395qenvD-8HQbxHI8_EluxQCoK_x8aZeSny0WdypEWaqGJ7h-ssumN1C1PuiXlfBWuyzjZsl1JGIjckXV2pEFMnwaa5OKhbx9RQFRptx6-qt-azAx0/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3na75-blyT_V4sMasTaNx1gv3S395qenvD-8HQbxHI8_EluxQCoK_x8aZeSny0WdypEWaqGJ7h-ssumN1C1PuiXlfBWuyzjZsl1JGIjckXV2pEFMnwaa5OKhbx9RQFRptx6-qt-azAx0/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Then I went back to packing, cleaning and moving. As some of you know I over did it and hurt myself. My upper back inflamed, my left arm spasmed and my carpal tunnel flared. Many weeks of doing very little and getting acupuncture. To be followed by a whooper of a fibromyalgia flair that sent me to bed for days. I admit I was grumpy and not fun to be around. Thank goodness for comcast and a dvr, recording shows and watching TV was one of my only past times. Recently I was able to pick up the needles again and started working on a sweater I started in February. <br />

Knits to fit and flatter by <a href="http://www.janeellison.co.uk/other-books/28-knits-to-fit-and-flatter.html">Jane Ellison</a> is a lovely book. It is laid out well, with easy to follow instructions and ideas you can use to change the pattern. She offers tips on how to customize the knits so they fit your body. This is my current favorite knitting book. I highly recommend it. I had wanted a basic cardigan and the twice as nice cardigan has been easy to knit. The yarn I am using is Woo Bu by Blue Moon Fiber Arts. In the colorway <a href="http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.com/newmoon/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=182_197&products_id=2243">Oregon Red Clover Honey</a> I love this yarn. It is a dream to knit. I love the feel of the fabric it makes and the slight shimmer the bamboo offers. I had purchased 2 skeins in January. The pattern says I need about 200 more yards for the medium size. Stubborn I am, I am knitting away. I made the back and one sleeve out of one skein. I have completed the second sleeve from the second skein, weighing everything as I go. My calculations say I will have enough for the two front sections, but just in case I do not, I have a plan. I'll keep you up to date.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxLKIhPYCOXuyvCBycVW2kbEDjMjm2LlU2w-hgDSeU6b2TOrt7XLVgj1YvGu-KB5LHoSCvwmIYSC0MmsXdhOO6qdKhMK5GxPjr-RgNS1F3as6IR_Y9acM1BqzuymHak2VQSmlCeY-KCPM/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxLKIhPYCOXuyvCBycVW2kbEDjMjm2LlU2w-hgDSeU6b2TOrt7XLVgj1YvGu-KB5LHoSCvwmIYSC0MmsXdhOO6qdKhMK5GxPjr-RgNS1F3as6IR_Y9acM1BqzuymHak2VQSmlCeY-KCPM/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">If your wondering about this picture, it was not random. <strike>Hell child,</strike> oh I mean my darling kitty Leonardo da Vinci, or Leo as we call him, was laying all over my sweater and book as I was trying to take pictures. We learn how measuring out and recording helps us to reproduce colors. So blending for a color wheel with colored top is in our homework. I enjoyed this process. I found out after blending with hand cards, hand combs and a drum carder, that I prefer using my drum carder. I felt the drum carder produced a much more even blend. I learned that no matter how many times I put the fiber through the carder, it would only blend so much. It is really about how the light reflects off each color used, creating the illusion of the new color. Although I went for a tradional color wheel presentation, I got my colors backwards, opps!</span> </div><div> </div><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493154435575633250" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ3XWE0P77uN7t9pmyu3eq5Py63mSE5_CC7P9jICNSn1guDEhRzMNJ0eRHr3EEMCfwecflHGADXBYXMIaiYxZNSgvxEJJyO06-6Mh_DgfiSP-i1nOY6Wg4e0q2HRJYF1hrqO5Q5Jnb9ig/s320/001.JPG" /></div>Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-48387593080624183252010-07-09T12:57:00.001-07:002010-07-09T13:08:22.980-07:00Level 2 MSP<span style="font-family:arial;">So Heather here is the picture I promised. This is most of what I have done so far. I think I will spend some time mounting and labeling. I made some labels today based on what we were asked to include. I also think this weekend I will work on combing/blending my fibers for the final project. Saturday my husband is working, so I thought I had time to work on Level 2, but my son just came to me with requests. Sunday we are going to a Lavender Festival. So it is possible for you to gain a bit of a lead on me, just remember the tortoise, grins!</span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, this is my homework for Level 2 of the Olds Master Spinner Program. I drove through Washington, Idaho and British Columbia before entering Alberta and heading north to the Olds for the Master Spinner Program. Below are just a few of the pictures I took along the way. I wish they included a picture of the Canola fields in bloom. Miles of yellow flowers with hugh wind tubines scattered through out and the Rocky Mountains in the back ground, it was 8 am and the skies were blue with clouds. It was so breath taking it still makes my eyes well up with tears when I think of it.</span><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhdFi4TB_cdnumc6HuV7WrKPmteyLRWs0AK-4qvLd04h8uhf_k3U4ZiYnVyDRGtJHEXB2J-EXH0rnKPK0zuNenE_SCrMHWgDMiTQR_eMXh01zp6fjAUJ75cBduvexVs8WCpFWZ6HelZvs/s1600/060.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; LOL! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.</span> <span style="font-family:arial;">Of course I read her blog, although lately I have not read it. So a couple of days ago I go to her blog to see what she is up to. Well! there I see all these granny squares, and a potholder swap. Off to Ravelry I went in search of patterns. The next thing I know I am down loading Scalloped Potholder and off to Llama Llama Knits for cotton. I came home with Classic Elite Yarns Premiere 50% Pima cotton 50% Tencel what a dream to crochet. In a couple hours crocheting I had a potholder! I am hooked! She is an English Angora Rabbit. I picked her up on Friday. My other fur child Molly was not to sure about this new addition to the family until yesterday. As usual Molly went to Airelle's cage, but instead of just touching noses, Airelle licked Molly's nose several times.<br /><div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR7OQRXwt-dx-CjGVvjgFWPy10IX9YJB29KLDIvCid_8aDhy_ybGeJ7A2IY6obQ0JbFMXu8hbKgNvEXJeYD-ayXRZgKea7RCpbYfDuDcrVLMgmIrv_hzUtYAP0N6QWGPb0W852L4WtBUA/s1600-h/013.JPG"></a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293443530595209938" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju7arfryZZJ92A0HbiL_EUn0zX9VzGbFwxWtAoTDfoRvaMyC8rz9aYxJMM2_vq5ABBFFu5caVcQoOn_iok14MZyR5trRdtyYbBPgKzqZoJ5XKUpIjDTH2dr3XGYBEDy2J8FUFueWHcdsQ/s320/003.JPG" border="0" /> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293443952770509010" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigh07G2_PRdy6CM3enE5VE0sqDQfSmsQ1jJglWk3JITNXifyUpDMewNF2o2AqRRA8mvQLyVRoO9dRO_n_22o2NZPo1yADH4jC36l2Xj52kcS-ToWJbGD89ikRTgQlsX6zXUL6ZXoLQzUA/s320/006.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293443536519423074" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoE230SdykeFjptXeuLqdv1_5JXV1onRSut00Z1FMEmDBWoEErJVe8NTGMF5Ajhyh8NrZxDEMopCLkT9Ri3Y9C8i9RFqTzqRKUJzHT9S5-8e7YzpVVspGADBFZ-FcrOC0zbl6RJrIAeZM/s320/010.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293443540744124338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXGA97rxlJ2PcqTN4DhuZIucWULKP3wBo5IEvT8iShOCOBRmbv_9OYwAOHIcY6Cnib-s6dlUkea6KIiK_GiCKNdwJ_Inr311HTvvbRpvE4TaZOgF1En4P-J8L5_sB0YF-vmXfAHxchMi0/s320/015.JPG" border="0" /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-51497526160668310192008-11-10T13:31:00.000-08:002008-11-10T14:33:09.617-08:00Fall Is In Full Swing<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267146133009473858" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwVsaoCgefzv0RcOPQ0a1k0mVyeNiRqrPTtY123jDeTeQwQK8MYrWnOIuOI-AQe1zt8cobWKviC1GnxxrFBW0Zn3z7ma0XipjD19ZzcOvKPYz_qaKGf96XtczTgwDz071-_YUgoc4gz0Y/s320/024.JPG" border="0" /> Sigh! The lazy days of summer are gone. Fall has descended upon us in a hurry, and time seems to be flying by! Halloween is forgotten and Thanksgiving is nearing us. I have been so busy with kids/school, birthdays, anniversary, appointments, knitting, and getting together with friends that I have not posted. So I have posted some pictures of what I have been up to. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267146140050533346" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ3ScCSliv8bI6yT_svgOZg7HXxc98HuCpFgzYUdiHNCZZ19NFuS0rUfPZTchlxyAFAVRXrzVveFDIkSEeGF26HHfz-iCqLwj-cY76e3sXzPdWUj1PIp6dZfb8BLLuoKPfD9nqjTLkxek/s320/007.JPG" border="0" /><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267146152440026834" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbCmRR7h_rT8f4aYPqNl1-6LU40JWmeW6nSuDEjD2FRH91kGkUn6ZgW__PWuMP1ZsMMcBb2Gox2vcGY_acpF9f-EkpdFkzgx5C8MKo-ZGfV6zTIgnSe4Hv4xy46JREE6fyx55Br4Wejd4/s320/012.JPG" border="0" /></div><br /><p>Pretty isn't it! My friend <a href="http://www.llamallamaknit.com/">Marie</a>, told me she had been using her left over singles to practice her Navajo Plying, I thought it a stellar idea. This was inspired by a trip last Thanksgiving to the Oregon Coast. It was so difficult to decide on which pictures, since there are hundreds!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255642720095927506" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifzNs2CiGWGaGr66XoDbTgF3OMzo9srKfFClpo8AAbxGK0iIjiSiOAkFA1QmQmCcwWUXDtNcPV3OBXlZJrp5kOQr-RktFf7KuTogOAT427jPxmsnRbLzxn2jtDDeKrbHGx3vLyMNmIQVc/s320/003.JPG" border="0" /> My first hand spun was inspired by a shell from that trip.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255642726422935250" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5nihmYrajX0hAkP96tfYsSpWi5gOW93QSFklcCJ3XKZ5a1gZ_3_1kqjRMb4QRZ-7tXoaFFqmzT8cd3an8VLBxqVZJ1sOA_KzemASh82QcpPpG9EdHOU-YIWdg721hyphenhyphen_CpktAO_Zj2IWw/s320/005.JPG" border="0" /> It was the first time in way too many years to count that I spent Thanksgiving with my father and his lovely wife. It was also Molly Dog's first big run free at the beach for a week trip, she was 8 1/2 months old. The camel/silk I spun reminds me of my father, the one person in this world who gets me more then anyone, we creatively think alike. He also has this amazing ability with just a look, a certain look, that gets me to go along with whatever crazy idea he has in mind. It usually ends up being something fun, silly and full of laughter and adventure. So once I put all of it together, I ran for my stash of fiber and yarn. Right to left Camel/Silk, Alpaca/Silk & yummy soft Cotton.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255642734771063090" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4tdKpYqd2MthjlOrQq1JbpWFzQJ0oZGrFhPzF1GOh1Ctvn8u48YwjJgo6Z_eP5IvlE-hvRxJzJKgO66Zu06dUx2zxll_JprrAVZTADogjRjDRucMyrRS5j2Dx3B1uXu7WQfIlSZLNvO8/s320/006.JPG" border="0" /> Then I grabbed these. Left to right A soft chunky Alpaca, which I might make into Morning side Neck Warmer by <a href="http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/">Brooklyntweed</a> , a blue green cotton/silk, maybe into a mobius shawl and 1300 yrds of soft 3 ply Alpaca I am undecided about.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255642735946665170" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCmS1BojOEqn2qqVbCC9VhmzURNLGMrroz7AYxxqLvQbt90_G85ugwfQCUnoIYNSxikRMs8Fo9rMp0LeUMONLSGvIbQd_MQ1S0fH89NrVHkdY1fzWRImH0geGr-u90XtUfwYdk1miSu_U/s320/007.JPG" border="0" />Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-17329376828060908842008-10-08T11:15:00.000-07:002008-10-08T11:22:57.273-07:00The Never Ending Knit is Finished!Done! Over! Finished! Moving on! Whew! LOL! What a great experience knitting the Summer Sampler Shawl with <a href="http://badcatdesigns.blogspot.com/">BadCatDesigns</a> has been. I learned so much for the lovely Andrea! Thank you! I look forward to knitting more of her designs. So here are some photos. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254849771717058114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4n_0vZfOSanhCY84U9oquRG06da7uMck8af3gVPcA7012IF6uywr-_wPDwA3oAD4TXad9LbzjhIl51dY8tCPxKULgiinTjHl8tatD6qHsdmMTtr6lCVRx9JDVgygAwfN4S9EmKO-QBUE/s320/002.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254849774403553042" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0FpgrxF66zgoOeyDHdj-GY55eNPMNCOa36ws_3jFM9xqsFgjdK4TTeFpoEro4YzRZhPrjCENQy0AwxfTw7GPW1AcEKt84au0ZWikgCJOgNJsErnfPJmjmULekcOsFXXR2XxUBJhIHHIQ/s320/003.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254849780978210402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifWyCV4EXdD0YoyViD0wlROs3rJSl8Fa_1bE755JWYUNCZENws7x8O9uPjfvQZwEd3cD70dwSHReECbdmtNxBqfgN96X5DtkwEHdlyB-gZbyaKqY7R6jVDZGfBP5LBDgDzyuWbT67aByQ/s320/013.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254849781340376546" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1O2TGjcQCkNn7s9IQrA7URYDn7gn-0xanyDIWa62elsMjzYDTOc-iOZGP94mcf5FI6hkhfKciVJgUE5WvlZf90f5pAGLj9OSxIhjc4J_2vZM5EGlGqelS_i7O7I80zT4h_M3qX0MYJQ0/s320/019.JPG" border="0" />Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-28801452808560325262008-10-04T17:01:00.000-07:002008-10-04T17:27:01.061-07:00Good Girl Gone Bad!I have been trying so hard to stick to my plan, be disciplined, follow through. It has been 10 days since my new wheel arrive, my shawl is still not finished, but I have been practicing spinning on my wheel. I thought I could stick to it, just spin the Corriedale. I was doing well, spinning a heavy worsted weight. three skein I spun and plied into 2 plies. I have 2 lbs of the stuff, gees. Then it started... I decided to spin smaller, just one skein, no big deal, a 2 ply fingerling. Eight bobbins of singles, four skeins of yarn, it was time to take a break, focus on knitting. I made it 2 days and the collapse began....This little voice. You know you want to spin. I ignored it, then I saw a beautiful 2 ounces of Bombyx Silk roving in shades of purple at Llama Llama Knits. I tried to be strong... The little voice came back, you know you want to spin the Merino/Silk in shades of purple,white,burgundy.... I could not take it. I broke out the wheel and spun and spun. Before I knew it I was racing back to the yarn shop and purchasing the Silk.<br /><div> The Merino/Silk<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253456975773652466" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIqOarem0YBapiuEWRNeMxT6KvOYU11G23XVEnKSa6txwTol67x2qvb39vjf63izerIsd6HJJY2xToerwdySfjgkkuf8SkrN38XFIKJkS2c-VzYRVRUspQUIcodG63krHeYQVt_7zMuz8/s320/003.JPG" border="0" /> Became this.....<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253456979634240594" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLsImfIHe8eBfA8urN6V9Y1H9FTr0QrAl9gNBgW6PSTe8WT4YkaSFsACwSltUDOkv7owkiQ4S88wijsl1v9vIzLmn73_UwVO2E7ZstRtN5sex8hRFYa7PeWTTCf-fWxtjz1BLZPou-Qi4/s320/005.JPG" border="0" /> and then the Silk.....<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253456983880184114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-W92wKNPOplIY59sGE_qJAs8HDnCxi5ffB7LtMwrUYiyN3UwC8hjCJyYPSBv12FvjL5RmpJmczPJELctw5opkd8-dnbN1qudkmB-33JRIrpvaTLZc8ptOM4ANqmtZl1fmKhc0NvtKwCU/s320/006.JPG" border="0" /> Voila! I spun the two singles together.</div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253456984083885858" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZqbZ-vpPXGPfzELZSWA6Blq_2_3lxo1nv74YRAzf4oL8Nt8CFplZ-4l7uMNx8qbU2m7zN3RU2AAvvA39pLaI_GELmAhTsSqjPqpgh4YBnA0VLWavAhyLRa-VOwrDQlX-UkEaq_OJxso/s320/008.JPG" border="0" /></div><div>I know I am addicted, I just had to spin. This morning I was checking my stash and worrying, I might run out of fiber. LOL! I know I am being silly. It is just so much fun to spin, I absolutely love it!</div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253456984135888498" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjc4H9hspfqYNjSQFyH2AxIQpM3-Q04Gs_DSfaKVEhT-eHD0ADQoNfb5UcJ-NaPOxxJnj3MEDmZ9TyAxI4OJBYZsZWKq8jTA30ciEm3XjucT9Wt2o9qiHDd-0B1N5bV9AQM7FzYEfu2xM/s320/010.JPG" border="0" /> Now I can spin some more Corriedale and wait for another 2oz of silk to arrive, so I can spin the rest of the Merino. I only used 1/2 of the 4 oz's I had. Then I will have enough yarn (approx 350 yards) to make something beautiful.<br /><div></div>Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-1414949871569998172008-09-25T22:22:00.001-07:002008-09-25T23:02:45.509-07:00Molly Approves The SonataEarlier then expected the door bell rang. Molly runs for the door, as I open the door and see the box, I just smile. Molly could not stop sniffing the box, it did travel through 6 UPS stations to reach us. Trying not to trip over her, I get it inside. Hmmm, small frown, the box was torn open and taped back up, but my hopes are high.<br /><br />I guess companies don't know that when you put a fragile sticker on a box, USPS & UPS interpret that as drop kick!<br /><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250196959722785234" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ7RQGgeeUH7zemEEAYdWIz2X7Jdnkq2hdZyFFg1ipQJuGKG1Ve-0dr8U2qQC0As-AXTFkNNv4qX9dALwg8GyEOBmQSsiBXr0xfraO3K3W-ckcIW2sBpU8yItsj3kz8Lz0rRQssxpW9vY/s320/025.JPG" border="0" />I knew it would come nestled in a nice padded case... So out it came. </p><p>Since Molly was a pup we have worked with her on her shyness. Sometimes statues scare her and she gets worked up, barking and such. The first time she did that, I have to admit, I laughed so hard I cried..... Anything new has to be thoroughly investigated. I will be visiting it many more times. The new <a href="http://www.calacademy.org/">Academy Of Science</a> is a mixture of the old and the new and so much more!<br /><br />Bless my husband, he is a good man! He signed us up for a membership, so today we went to a member preview. My loving husband at the last minute could not make it, he is 1/2 way to Oregon picking up his booth for his trade show next week, more about that later.<br /><br />Early this morning I kicked my teenage sons out of bed and off he headed for San Francisco. It was so much fun! I felt like I was 10 yrs old again. Anyone who lives in the BayArea the Academy will be free to the public during it's grand opening September 27 & 28, then it will be free the third Wednesday of every month. Please encourage your PTA's to fund field trips. For children in groups of 15 who live in San Francisco it is free and for all other's it will be $4.95 a student. If I sound like a spokes woman, well I am. I feel it is very important for our youth to be encouraged to explore Art & Science.<br /><br />I took many photos and my son (who has a better video camera) took even more photos and videos. For now this link has only mine, but either tonight or the next couple of days I will add his. Enjoy! Update:9/22/08 I have added my son's photos, please keep in mind he is an enthusiastic young photographer.<br /><br /><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/WBKdesigns/AcademyOfScience?authkey=XQUSdvDF48k">http://picasaweb.google.com/WBKdesigns/AcademyOfScience?authkey=XQUSdvDF48k</a>#Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-23250570313181397422008-09-17T15:12:00.000-07:002008-09-17T16:19:27.018-07:00Chihuly and BeyondLast week I went to San Francisco for the day with my mom. She wanted to see the exhibit at the Legion of Honor, when we got there, it was packed. It was not the first Tuesday, which is free and crazy crowded, it was the second Tuesday, what gives? I still don't know why so many people were there. We made a last minute change and dashed for the DeYoung Museum hoping to see the <a href="http://www.chihulyatthedeyoung.org/">Chihuly Exhibit</a> . Not crowded and we walked right in, being a member, sometimes makes this easy. Well it did not disappoint! It was awesome, breath taking, wow! For me Museums are a venue for creative energy, I find inspiration and renewed interest in designing. So what follows are several photos I took.<br />These were spectacular! This photo does not do them justice. They are huge! The rooms were black, with spot lights on the glass, my little digital camera can only do so much.<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247118282731121298" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJEvk9zvdSzv8TNh8H4OB_wM7EyHv4oc3z1UTGwAAqVT-6RWrhnCAL18_AvmYzzUYLrG94odUf5HPIbJaF0QmJbmWWxtnSuRHsRzqq-xOoGIUEBy2bdfN0wR7S21S7cI6ogORd0_cK8SM/s320/024.JPG" border="0" /> <div></div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247118301467983746" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLaV7JKeJtqEEcFPCQUhUH0vHp2RoLTWsIQA8Pl4J13vfO5hZ5ml8uV1w3kZXFeFfrVObCxnWQ-OxwGLMWPnBbnCvKShyphenhyphen3eWpTRmdSjYVpmmBayI_DYBqMxDGoKEtj2jfiDFDUXqKmYso/s320/074.JPG" border="0" />This is the garden. I was in search of Triple Cheese Cake for the <a href="http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring08/PATTnobhill.html">Nobhill Shrug</a>. I love Artfibers' yarns, but as we all know they get discontinued them quickly. So I was in hunt of a replacement and this came as a suggestion <a href="http://www.artfibers.com/yarn.php?yarnID=6198&page=1&sort=defaultSort">Chanteuse</a> for the body and <a href="http://www.artfibers.com/yarn.php?yarnID=6199&page=1&sort=defaultSort">Udon</a> for the accent. I know, I know I have not finished the summer sampler yet. I have finished the 3rd corner and I am working on the second long side, the finish is in site. I was temporarily derailed, I could not help myself! Just look at this chunky monkey squeezable goodness. The need for something quick and Fall like consumed me. I blame it on the wool fumes, I was weak, just for a moment.</p><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247118617147665490" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyuUJYzpuszyFswBl8GgpOp-w0G_tVT1JNNtltpFzQSyCyipSueOoFV9IgPRsM4DZQkbNwhB97K1G-rDM7SUIwxq9SjTMz_jIPczZfyZm99kDUlyQNkXAtiVoeGPAUuFF3WZjTuOQ53rc/s320/008.JPG" border="0" /></p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247118618644844114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYWJiNLIQSmutsXf25JBd7y-cU6XUD3E7KmnlXmVdtBDrS42oyznvckUeANL7y5EvM9S3CAzPV_Nl0RYbFNJMhZE0P_pQ1kP_cexaWDgSJS_viLeeuwpw2Q_YeoXdu2aQajZswJdvhWrY/s320/012.JPG" border="0" /></p><p>Now back to the Summer Sampler, I swear it will be done soon!</p>Kim MacKenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11831831638854853986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5559154406135709852.post-6013239806168233232008-09-14T09:36:00.000-07:002008-09-14T10:20:36.666-07:00California Wool and Fiber Festival<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIC2b517IoqydDK2BFMWsB9-pMuc-m8PZYtoAQ5MVzDZP2vImnNtgfxvYnIYmXK0ov2W25z-PGcx9OgN8BSCr6DPRxo8Nl3CxXR0lgIZruG3fTkBSvUvgUOwNNtpKGpIoRyuIoSq6vd5w/s1600-h/004.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245917560243243202" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIC2b517IoqydDK2BFMWsB9-pMuc-m8PZYtoAQ5MVzDZP2vImnNtgfxvYnIYmXK0ov2W25z-PGcx9OgN8BSCr6DPRxo8Nl3CxXR0lgIZruG3fTkBSvUvgUOwNNtpKGpIoRyuIoSq6vd5w/s320/004.JPG" border="0" /></a>Friday I hopped in my car, cranked up the music and hit the highway for a long drive to Boonville for the <a href="http://www.fiberfestival.com/Fiber%20Festival/Home.html">California Wool & Fiber Festival</a>. In Marin it was foggy and crisp. I had no idea how much fun Hwy 128 would be in my Mini, half way between Cloverdale and Boonville the fog was breaking up with the promise of a beautiful day. Before I knew it I was at the Mendocino Fair Grounds. The roadway was lined with cars, so I parked in the paid parking area. Boonville is full of nice, cordial, smiling people, it was refreshing to know that less then two hours from the BayArea people are not in a hurry, more then willing to take the time to talk to you. It gave me the feeling of being far away from the busy suburban area in which I live .<br />Online the fiber festival did not mention, that is part of the County Fair! Cotton Candy,Corn Dogs and wine tasting I personally opted for a softy ice cream since it was sunny and warm.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245917555743930082" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRtI0eTGy1ibnzhq_WR5U0vr00qQqJWiFbhAw1J03QVLFsGGmtjUmhRmEeoJ0lxvd1VcASaLvQaZxGOJzNxiebOImGvL0Nma2qvcSBpMviLWTvZ3a3nVtXw1o3Ue9MjT8fq6R3ri7_EM0/s320/003.JPG" border="0" />I made my way to the building with the Fiber Vendors and the Fleece judging was under way.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245917559481171346" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0vtAqSJvatdwAIhu5EkRKt9rjsHfpsNnPUUZqxWXSIt3DmJcgdARQSEFqIjvPgJTRpKE2NKM_XnVKJfyLBvsiBB4oePMQs74YIa5Gt4nLkCZL1esXV4zgpKadaoOxE3vZI6Xf9Mx_Tgo/s320/002.JPG" border="0" /> <div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245917558431104082" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPk8Vw4qyH_TD2BKIQWSUhm3jSrKhZygdIzYW6PRQsXaA33pxCqJ9bBTm5j4d-7TECJVV9oV49_Z_-WeAvVaC_I0wGM6aI0N1Kj1EtHtn4P3ACjTVUx_9EGFaitnV4FA9qrxC70GPnx_U/s320/001.JPG" border="0" />Not that I know anything about raw fleece and how it is judged. I would assume staple length and texture have something to do with it. It was facinating to watch for a while, all smiles and seriousness. As a new spinner I am not ready to tackle a fleece, I leave that to those of you know what your looking for. So I walked around drooling over spinning wheels, touching fibers and watching the Owner of Merry Meadows Farm .... machine card fibers. I decided to purchased some of her Corriedale/Romney fibers. I have not spun this type of wool yet and it feels very soft, so I thought I would expand my knowledge of wools and what I like. I also purchased some Merino wool and Silk blend from <a href="http://www.carolinahomespun.com/">CarolineHomespun</a> , Morgaine is very nice! and the price was very resonable. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245923701052566514" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbuDICqsrYcR1oTOvwinYC1x6D_6MSgbSxkOv3TriZvsc-kUmeislvT-vrIxonxikd2SF7757HDCZ8ucdtsLdssO3WzxCyUXpE9Ybi2kHUL90ULG3b98siPHDTjipcQRxMyMax4sdGGvY/s320/005.JPG" border="0" /> <div>So off to class I went, there were 5 of us from Sacramento, Oxidental, Walnut Creek, Ornida and Novato. Two of the ladies had wheels and spun regularly, two had never spun before and recieved a quick lesson on a spindle.<br />Nancy Finn of <a href="http://www.crownmountainfarms.com/html/rainbows.html">Chasing Rainbows Dyeworks</a> is great! I had so much fun in her class, she taught us all about silk and where it comes from. We went home with samples of different kinds. </div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245918088253057874" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK8EyYLQUCF_YXEtTXgdTLQvPnzX4VYf_WZcyhAIX9iTZrOdkG6b13X7fEOO2dxzsa_aIOFoBwPSa4ucVzpkdFOqm6j-6CPT1GTyx_TOs3sV0rXRJItRZn6Dso0F8ghrl8cgCIqyYIz6A/s320/007.JPG" border="0" /></div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245918089721685394" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGiiXwAsEiODi-4RAoNG7pJAqMTT94dtHdT9qc4DejPI3Noko5rktAbxkViWar1F_8RBEpYotLSSvsQzHnoDBC8dZtw5Lr6DdMJ0d9HRsq9mpPfmPnTxnwY2dZyCrS1Yv5UPZAkfcks8g/s320/008.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245918090395153074" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2Dhyphenhyphen_3DKT4Vrpn-JdtAIMKAF4HWEMZtXlLliAyZABwYSQzZar3qQprRWs82HLjtN-oSNGIHtE3nq3smOpQcoHfTjPapXMhqX7gUHsXO2PdF4j_c_6g9aCEkrc3IzI4adUFncv4OnBEAE/s320/009.JPG" border="0" />We learned about coccons (sorry to any vegans who are reading) both wild and cultivated, Tussah Silk, and Silk Hankies. How to handle the hankies, dye them, what kind of dye to use and how to set the dye. I have not dyed silk before, so I found the class to be very informative. Dying the Hankies brought smiles all around. I was transported back to finger painting as a child.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245917562301087026" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu955kJetOjarJXP0ohd7vNQr4T6AC-Se7qCNtiZxJmZmCm0QrcOI_AhRHFn_bahYQnM51UX8n9Oeddyr393HWayqqP2rnwRu_TPkpzeUBm2-Dhc0jYuW2FRsNN2ep3HGSnRAS8cpSyNs/s320/006.JPG" border="0" /></div><div>I want to thank all the ladies in my class for a wonderful day, what a nice group of women!
